“I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The Lord preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever. (v1-3,8-9,14,17,20-21)
I really needed to read this today. I’m not sure about you, but I’m beginning to feel a little ragged with all of the activity over the last couple of months. It seems like there is so much hustle and bustle and so little time for rest. Yet, this psalm offers us great hope.
David says that “The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The Lord preserves all who love him…” I could really use some preservation and raising up right now – I’m feeling emotionally tired and physically strained. How are you feeling today?
My challenge for today is to simply rest in the Lord’s presence as much as possible. Let’s fully surrender to God (humbly bow down before Him) and let Him sustain us. I know for a fact that I can’t handle it all on my own, I’ll only accomplish exhaustion and frustration. My strength, stamina and well-being need to be rooted in Him, not my own finite being.
Father God, our God and King, we bless Your name forever and ever. We admit we are weak, and cannot get through the requirements of life on our own. We admit we are tired and in need of rest for our souls. We confess our brokenness and ask for the healing only You can provide. Father please be our Shelter and Place of Rest. Uphold us, raise us up, and preserve us for the sake of Your name and glory. We bless Your holy name forever and ever. Amen.
