This chapter contains a vision of Daniel’s, and a partial interpretation. Some of the vision had already been fulfilled in Daniel’s day, another portion was fulfilled by NT times, and a portion of it will be fulfilled in our future (as best as we can understand / interpret it).
” ‘As I looked… the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames… a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him… I looked… And as I looked, the beast was killed, and its body destroyed… As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time… and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man… And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion… and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.’ ” (v9-14 abr)
The portion of Daniel’s vision which has not yet been fulfilled is Jesus’ Millennial Kingdom – Satan will be defeated and Jesus will reign over the earth for one thousand years prior to sin and death being ultimately destroyed.
Despite the fact our world is crumbling, falling apart, experiencing terrible atrocities, suffering natural / manmade disasters, and has achieved the sinful state of Sodom / Gomorrah, with no known reprieve in sight, this condition is temporary. Jesus is coming back in God’s divine timing to first rule the earth, and then replace it with a new one that is untouched by sin.
If you find the broken state of our world to be grievous and unbearable (I certainly do) then take heart, and remember that Jesus is “coming soon” (Rev 22:12-13). While we wait, we need to remain faithful, run the good race, and build His kingdom by evangelizing and discipling among our neighbors.
Father God, our Almighty Creator and Righteous Redeemer, You alone know the future and Your timing. Thank you for blessing us with Jesus’ saving sacrifice. We also praise You for the time You have granted us, that many more may come to faith in Jesus prior to His return. Please help us to use this time wisely, inviting souls into Your kingdom, for Your glory and honor, amen.
