Today I offer a prayer for comfort during times of affliction. I know many people right now who are in dire need of the Lord’s comforting presence. This comfort may come directly from Him, though people often receive God’s comfort and support through Christ’s followers (us). Let’s be a gentle comfort to those who are experiencing difficult times. May we also welcome support from the body of Christ when we need it (because I’m bad at requesting / accepting support).
Father God, keeper of our souls, in You alone do we find security, in You alone do we trust. Please don’t allow us to be shamed, and please guard us from evil. May we root ourselves in You moment by moment. Please make Your ways known to us, and teach us Your paths. Please lead us in truth for You are our Savior and our Ever-Present Father. Please fulfill Your promise of mercy and steadfast love upon us, and forget our sin, for out of Jesus’ love we have been forgiven in accordance with Your goodness O Lord. You are good and righteous Father, instructing us according to Your ways. Thank you for humbling us, and teaching us the humble way of Jesus. As we strive to keep Your commands and follow Your paths, we are in constant receipt of Your steadfast love and faithfulness. Please pardon our guilt in Jesus’ name, for we have rebelled greatly. Please instruct us in Your ways, and provide shelter for our distressed souls. Please be our friend and our guide, making known to us Your will, as we seek to be near to You. May our eyes forever be on You O Lord, for You rescue us from trouble and spiritual disaster. Please turn Your face toward us and be gracious to us for we are broken and afflicted. Our troubles are numerous and great yet You have the unique power to deliver and forgive. Please guard our souls and deliver us for You are our refuge. May our devotion and faithfulness to You preserve us in Your steadfast loving presence. Blessed be You the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Provider of Mercy and God of all Comfort, who comforts us in our affliction, so we may be able to comfort others in their affliction, as we ourselves experience Your grace, mercy, and comfort. Amen.
