Today is Remembrance Day / Veterans Day / Armistice Day – a day where we honor those who have served for the freedom, security, peace, and safety of others. Christ calls us to sacrificial love, a selfless love that seeks to meet the needs of others. I offer a prayer to thank all those who sacrificially serve others, and encourage us to do the same.
Father God, our Honorable and Most High Lord, You are truly worthy of our service and obedience. May we obey and honor You by serving all those who are made in Your image, and do so with the love of Jesus. You have given each of us gifts we can steward for the service of Your image-bearers. Jesus You served for our freedom, giving Your life as a ransom for many, so that we may use this gift to serve others through love. As we serve others, may we do so joyfully, energetically, and worshipfully toward You, knowing that Your inheritance is our ultimate reward. Thank you for empowering us and others to humbly serve those who are hungry or afflicted, so they may see Your love shining through us, and we would be satisfied with Your work by our hands. Please remind us that the greatest on earth are those who are the most humble, who serve others without seeking personal rewards, just as You Jesus came to serve us. We honor and emulate those who follow You, for those who serve You honor our Father in heaven. May our service be an extension of our living faith, a faith modeled on Your service to the Father. Finally, may we serve joyfully without grumbling, so through our words and deeds we may glorify You Lord. To You belong all glory, praise, and sovereign dominion, forever and ever, amen.
