This chapter contains more prophecy concerning the sin and humbling of God’s people, plus a prophecy of Jesus’ coming.
” ‘…Because you have made your guilt to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your deeds your sins appear… And you, O profane wicked one, prince of Israel, whose day has come, the time of your final punishment… Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt that which is low, and bring low that which is exalted. A ruin, ruin, ruin I will make it… until he comes, the one to whom judgment belongs, and I will give it to him.’ ” (v24-27 abr)
This ‘the first will be last, and the last will be first’ passage reminds us that those who exalt themselves will be brought low, and those who exalt God will receive the Lord’s blessing. This is especially true of Jesus, “the one to whom judgement belongs”, who was the humblest servant leader. He exalted the Father, and served all of humanity, never glorifying Himself, and is therefore exalted by God the Father (and us, ideally).
How is our pride? Do we exalt ourselves, or seek recognition from others, more than we seek to glorify God? Regardless of our gut answer, let’s invite the Holy Spirit into the discernment process, in case there are any oversights in our own analysis.
Father God, our Glorious and Benevolent Lord, our Sovereign King and Creator, we praise and exalt Your holy name. Holy Spirit please open our hearts and our minds to any pride that may be hiding within. Please gently point out any oversights, humbling us, so we may glorify our Lord more, and ourselves less. May we seek God’s recognition alone, and not seek the praise of our neighbors. May we seek to serve You alone, pursuing Your will over ours, each and every day, amen.
