Today I offer a prayer for extending grace to others. From time to time, I find myself frustrated with others. When I get that way, I try very hard to remember that God and Jesus extend grace to me when I don’t deserve it, and if I want to be Christlike, I should do the same for others (even if they “don’t deserve it”).
Father God, our Merciful Lord, thank you for extending Your unmatched grace, saving us from utter destruction. May we confidently draw near to Your throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and grace in our time of need. As You restore and establish us, filling us with Your strength, love, and glory, may we in turn extend those to the people around us. May we forgive others in the same way You have mercifully and graciously forgiven us through the washing and renewal of the Holy Spirit. May we be salt and light in this world, speaking graciously toward others, knowing how to answer each person in a Christlike way. We long to speak in ways that build others up, and pour grace upon those who hear us. Since we believe in Jesus whom You sent, may we follow His ways, completing Your works and serving Your will here on earth. Thank you for guiding us through Your word and Spirit to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with You O Lord, loving you and our neighbors with every breath. Like You Father, may we be merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, both now and forever, amen.
