Today I offer a prayer of deriving our satisfaction and contentment from God. The world will promise us the world, but the world is not enough – only God can satisfy our souls, for we are designed to be His people, and He promises to be our God.
Father God, Everlasting Lord, You have been our provider since before You created our innermost beings and knit us together in our mother’s womb. Lord You tell us that when we delight in You, You will give us the desires of our hearts. Even as we travel through scorched places, You promise to continually satisfy our desires, strengthen our bones, and water us with springs that never fail. You satisfy our longing souls, filling those who are hungry with good things. Jesus You are our Bread of Life, and promise that those who come to You will never hunger or thirst. You tell us whoever drinks of Your water will be satisfied, and that water will become in us a spring of water welling up to eternal life. You open Your hand, satisfying the desires of every living thing. You have promised to never leave or forsake us, so we can be content with what we have and need not love the things of this world, for there is great gain in godliness with contentment. Paul himself encouraged us to learn contentment and rest in that no matter what our circumstances may be. May we behold Your face in righteousness, so when we awaken we shall be satisfied with Your presence. Fearing You, O Lord, leads to life, and those who receive it will rest satisfied, for our souls will not be visited by harm. Please continue to satisfy those of us who hunger and thirst for righteousness, in Jesus’ holy name, now and always, amen.
