Today I offer a prayer of honor and respect for our elders, and for our spiritual children. The Bible emphasizes both learning and teaching in this lifetime. Ideally, we’ll spend our entire life learning about Jesus and scripture, and also pass that knowledge on to the next generation of Christ followers.
Father God, our Steadfast Lord and Teacher, we praise Your holy name. Thank you for providing many spiritual leaders who labor to keep watch over our souls. May we joyfully honor and respect them, submitting to their knowledge, and imitating their faith. May we remember to pray for them, so they may teach and lead godly, dignified lives, pleasing in Your sight, so many people may be saved through the knowledge of Your truth. May we honor our spiritual parents, hearing their instruction, and living out their teachings, for they are blessings. As we continue to grow in our own faith may we do our best to present ourselves to You as servants who need not be ashamed, for we are rightly obeying Your commands and truths. May we share Your scriptures with others which are profitable for teaching, for reproof, corrections, and for training in righteousness. May we become spiritual overseers, Your righteous stewards, being above reproach so we may love our neighbors well. May we, in all purity and righteousness, honor and encourage those who are older like they are our parents, those who are younger like they are our children, and our peers like they are our siblings. May we love one another, just as You have loved us, both now and forever, amen.
