Today I offer a prayer for repentance and obedience. We’ve been hearing these themes quite frequently in our readings lately, so let’s do what we can to ensure we’re putting them into practice.
Father God, our Merciful and Gracious Lord, we humble ourselves before You today. Jesus says that He came to call the sinners to repentance, for Your Kingdom is at hand. Therefore, we confess that we have sinned, and we ask for the forgiveness available through Your Son Jesus, so that our sin may be blotted out. We, who are called by Your name are trying to humble ourselves, and turn from our wicked ways, that You may hear us and forgive our sin. We trust that You are faithful and just to not only forgive us, but also cleanse us of all unrighteousness. We long to forsake our our sin, literally turn away from it, and obtain Your boundless mercy. We do not want to be conformed to these former sinful passions, but we’d rather strive to be Your obedient children. We call You ‘Lord’, and we love You, so we want to obey Your voice and keep Your commandments, for they are not burdensome to keep. We love You by obeying, and by obeying we show our love for You. As we learn to carefully obey Your voice and do all that You say, we trust that You will guard and protect us from our enemies and temptations. May we do as You command us, so that the world would know we love You, and that You love the world. In the name of Jesus our Savior and Redeemer we praise You, forever and always, amen.
