Today is Canada’s first annual ‘National Day for Truth and Reconciliation’. The day honors the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. It reminds us of tragic and painful history, that will hopefully fuel the reconciliation and relational healing process going forward. So today, I offer a prayer for reconciliation and healing.
Father God, our Loving and Forgiving Lord, we wish to honor and glorify You in all of our words and actions. One way we can do that, is being kind and tenderhearted toward others, forgiving each other, just as You forgave us. If someone sins against us, may we gently seek to correct them, and be reconciled with them. Just as Jesus gave us the ministry of reconciliation, so all would seek reconciliation with You, may we also be ambassadors for Christ to our neighbors. May we be Your righteous hands and feet in this world. May we bear with one another, forgive each other, and seek forgiveness, just as You have forgiven us. May we learn to strive for peace with everyone, and be holy in word and action so all may see You through us. The second greatest commandment is to love our neighbors as ourselves, so may we fulfill that law by loving one another earnestly, for love covers a multitude of sins. May we also learn to confess our sins to one another, asking for forgiveness, and praying for each other, so that there can be healing. May our love for each other be encouraging, and draw us closer together in relationship, so together we may receive the full assurance of understanding and knowledge in Christ Jesus. In Jesus’ holy and loving name we seek to glorify You, forever and ever, amen.
