Yesterday was the official voting day for Canada’s federal election. I offer a prayer for wisdom and guidance for governmental leaders, that our countries may be led well over the next number of years. I also pray that people of the world honor and respect those God has allowed into places of influence, especially when we don’t agree with their decisions or did not vote for them.
Father God, our Sovereign and All-Powerful Lord, You are the absolute authority over all of creation, far greater than any political, spiritual, or economic leader in this world. Father may we trust in You with all of our hearts, and not rely on our own finite understanding, acknowledging You in everything we do, knowing that You will make our paths straight. In this world of rising anxiety, may we lift all things and people up to You in prayer, especially our leaders. We know that people plan their own ways, and don’t always seek Your guidance, but we trust You are still directing all long-term outcomes. May we continue to choose for ourselves wise, understanding, and experienced leaders, appointing them in places of authority. May these leaders hear the people, increase in learning, and obtain the guidance they need to lead well. May they increase in righteousness, coming to rely on You as their Chief Advisor, so that the people may rejoice and glorify You. May we Your people remember to be submissive and obedient to the authorities You have established, to be ready for every good work, speaking good to all people, be ambassadors for peace, gentle in spirit, and show perfect courtesy toward all people. May all of our prayers, earnestness, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, including our leaders, that we may lead peaceful and quiet lives, godly and dignified in every way. Blessed be Your holy name O God, forever and ever, for all wisdom and might are Yours. You alone change times and seasons; You alone remove leaders and set them up; and You alone give wisdom to those who seek it. To You be all honor, glory, and praise, from this day forward, amen.
