1 Chronicles 17

I’m going to do something a little different today. Instead of commentary, I’m going to offer a personalized version of David’s prayer (v16-27). I would encourage you to take some time and write down a prayer of your own, either today or over the weekend. Prayer is a critical practice for our relationship with God, and writing prayers down is also a good practice, because we can look back and see how God has answered our prayers over time.

Father God, who am I, and who are my family that You would bring me this far in life? You blessed us so greatly, yet we are not deserving. You have have valued and loved me, and spoken well of me, showing me a hope and a future with You. You have done great things for me, and through me, yet I am merely Your humble servant, lacking in wisdom and strength. There is no other like You Father, no other God besides You. Who is like Your people, Your children, those who call upon Your name? For You have redeemed us, rescuing us from the yoke of slavery. You have established us as Your children forever, and You are our God, exhibiting Your great and awesome works through the deliverance of Your people. Father may Your will be done as You have spoken it, and may Your name be magnified and glorified forever, through Your people who are Your witnesses. May You forever be known as ‘The Lord of Hosts’, and ‘The God of Israel’. Since You have restored our relationship to You through our Lord Jesus Christ, we may approach You boldly in prayer, and we may call upon Your promises. May You continue to establish Your kingdom here on earth, in preparation for Your eternal kingdom in heaven. May we bless You with our words and actions, glorifying Your name, forever and ever, amen.
