Today I offer a prayer for active obedience and passive obedience toward God. Active obedience involves following God’s commands to do (or not do) something (actionable directives). Passive obedience is total submission to God and His will, which usually entails enduring great trials. Jesus exhibited both forms of obedience flawlessly. Most of us won’t be physically tortured as Jesus was, but there will still be (healthy) sacrifice involved in order to obey God fully.
Father God, our Sovereign Lord, You alone are worthy and deserving of our obedience. We love You O God, so we strive to keep Your commandments, for they are not burdensome. Holy Spirit please humble us to the point of willing obedience and submission so we may hear, and carefully obey, the Father’s voice. May we choose the way of faithfulness, and set Your commands before us, keeping Your word and receiving the fulness of Your love through Your indwelling presence. Our King, please help us to remain Your obedient children, deny the passions of the sinful flesh, and obey You rather than this world. Through Your Spirit may we abide in You, and may You abide in us, so we can keep Your word and be blessed. May we hasten to obedience without delay, never departing from following You, and consistently submit to Your will, all of our remaining days, so we will never see spiritual death. Amen.
