Today I offer a prayer for reigniting our passion for scripture. There are days where I just can’t wait to get into my Bible and hear God’s words to me for that day. I admit there are also days where I don’t feel like reading my Bible, and can barely find the motivation to crack it open (like today, honestly). Let’s identify some possible barriers to our love for God and scripture, and ask Him for help in breaking those down.
Father God, our Loving and Compassionate Creator, You are deserving of our unwavering love. May we seek You with our whole hearts, growing deeper in love with You, so we may not wander from Your words and commandments. We long to store up You words in our hearts so we might not sin against You. Please help us to remember You alone are Lord and God, our Creator, and we are Your people made in Your image, the sheep of Your pasture. We love You Lord, even though we have not seen Your face with our own eyes; we believe in You and Your Word, and we rejoice with inexpressible, glory-filled joy. Thank you for looking favorably upon those who approach Your word with humble, repentant, worshipful, and respectful hearts. Thank you for blessing us with Your words in languages and formats we can understand, and for Your indwelling Spirit who helps interpret and counsel with wisdom and understanding. May we constantly seek You out of love and curiosity, asking for wisdom and knowledge so we may understand Your teachings and leadings in our lives. Please bless us with joy and peace in our spirits, through Your Spirit, as we spend time in Your word. May we easily find places of stillness and quietness so we may better focus on You and Your word. Please open our eyes and hearts so when we prayerfully approach Your word, we would be postured to learn from You. May we find joy in intensely studying Your good and perfect word, so we may not forget it, and be blessed through our obedience. Paul reminds us that Your words are recorded for our instruction and encouragement, so we may be perseverant and hopeful in the face of life’s circumstances. Thank you for blessing us and keeping us through Your word, making Your face shine upon us, and giving us much grace, mercy, and peace through our deepening relationships with You. Amen.
