This chapter’s heading is “The Year of the Lord’s Favor”. I recommend reading the entire thing (it’s only 11 verses). It reads like a psalm, praising God for the goodness He bestows / will bestow upon those who remain faithful.
“…but you shall be called the priests of the Lord; they shall speak of you as the ministers of our God… Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy. I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” (v6-7, 11 abr)
There is so much beautiful imagery in this chapter. When God is glorified, His people will (one day) get a full share of that glory, and receive abundant blessing. While we await the full glorification of God and the full rewards of a new heaven and new earth, we can still glorify, praise and obey God, holding tight to His promises.
Do you know anyone (perhaps even yourself) who is currently struggling with great difficulty / hardship in life? Due to our sin corrupting this world, our lifetime on earth will be brutal, full of difficulties and sorrows. Yet, God promises indescribable wonders for those who receive His forgiveness, help build Jesus’ kingdom, persevere, and remain faithful.
Some of these blessings will be received in this life, but the bulk of them will be reserved for us in Heaven. Let’s spread this good news to all who are suffering, glorifying God in the process. Let’s remember that this present suffering will be brief compared to an eternity of blessing in Jesus’ presence.
Father God, our Generous Lord and Provider of Abundant Blessings, we praise and glorify Your holy name. May we walk in the footsteps of Jesus, sharing Your gospel message with all You lead us to. May they too receive Your forgiveness, and look forward to an eternity with Jesus. May we honor You with our words and actions, each and every day, amen.
