This chapter describes the humiliation of Babylon as God judges them for their sin.
“Your nakedness shall be uncovered, and your disgrace shall be seen. I will take vengeance, and I will spare no one. You felt secure in your wickedness; you said, ‘No one sees me’; your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray, and you said in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one besides me.’ But… ruin shall come upon you suddenly, of which you know nothing.” (v3, 10-11 abr)
God knows and sees all, so sin will be found out and exposed, no matter how “secret” it is. Babylon, and those who follow their sinful ways, who see themselves as god of their own lives, will eventually come to ruin (including eternal separation from God). God is just and righteous and will deal with sin firmly.
Those who voluntarily confess their sin to God, accept the salvation made available through Jesus, and commit to following God the rest of their lives will be spared from such ruin. The best news? This is a free gift that does not need to be purchased or earned. All we need to do is accept it, and put it to good use building Jesus’ kingdom.
Father God, our Merciful and Gracious Lord, You have made redemption possible through our Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you for forgiving our sin through the sacrifice of Your Son, and enabling us to have restored relationships with You. Please guide our words and actions every day, helping us to build Jesus’ kingdom by sharing Your gospel message throughout our circles of influence. In the name of Jesus our Lord and King we seek to honor and glorify You, now and forever, amen.
