Today I offer a prayer for expanding our patience. How many of us struggle with patience? I consider myself to be a patient person, yet I still have limits. By the way, patience is not quite the same thing as endurance – endurance is the ability to weather storms and hardships calmly, while patience is waiting (while preferably praying) faithfully and calmly for something to happen. Let’s ask God to expand our patience, no matter how much we already have, because in this case, more is better.
Father God, our Steadfast and Magnificent Lord, we praise Your holy name, for in wisdom You have given us Your Holy Spirit who ministers to our spirits. May You continue to grow patience within us, which also comes with love, joy, peace, and other fruit of Your Spirit. May we learn to rejoice in hope, be patient in all circumstances, and remain constant in prayer. Please help us to wait patiently for Your promises to be fulfilled, hope for what we do not see, and never grow weary or give up while doing what is good. May we patiently bear with others in love with all humility and gentleness, for love is kind, humble, and patient. Please teach us not to be anxious or fearful about anything, including those who seem to prosper in their ways, but bring all things to You in prayer with thanksgiving. May we learn to be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to become angry, and patiently put on compassionate hearts in all kindness and humility, for we are Your beloved chosen ones. May we never grow tired of encouraging the idle or fainthearted, helping the weak, and being patient with them all. Thank you for being patient with us, allowing time for many to come to repentance before You fulfill Your promises. May we have Christlike patience as we eagerly await Jesus’ return. May we consistently establish our hearts before Jesus comes again. While we wait patiently on You, please incline Your ear toward us and hear our cries. Jesus please display Your perfect patience through us so we’re examples to others who will one day believe in You and inherit eternal life. May we be joyful imitators of those who faithfully wait to inherit Your Kingdom, being strengthened with all power according to Your glorious might, forever and ever, amen.
