Today I offer a prayer on the advent theme of love. It’s a broad topic, so we’ll primarily focus on God’s love for us, and our love for others (which is still quite broad…).
Father God, our Loving and Steadfast Lord, You have blessed us abundantly and beyond measure. You love us so much that You sent Your one and only Son so that we may choose to follow Him, restoring our spirit’s eternal relationship with You. You are Love, O Lord, and by being in right relationship with You, we allow Jesus to love others through us. May everything we do be done in love, loving others earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Please help us to put on love like a garment, wearing it prominently, so it binds us together with others in perfect harmony. May we love others just as You Jesus have loved us, so by our love for them the entire world would know that we are Your disciples. May faith, hope and love abide in our lives, remaining steadfast, with love being the greatest of all. May we continue to love You O Lord with all of our hearts, souls, minds, and strength, and in doing so, obediently love our neighbors as You love us. Thank you for showing us perfect love, a love that drives out all fear, rejoices in truth, bears all things, and exhibits the humility of Jesus, showing others that we have been reborn through Jesus. May we continue to honor, love and glorify You through every word and action, each and every day, forever and ever, amen.
