Today I offer a prayer for creation care. With mounting concerns over our global climate and conditions, it is becoming very clear that Christ followers need to be playing active roles is slowing this world’s degradation. I believe it’s our God-given responsibility to be good stewards of everything in our care, partnering with Jesus who redeems all of creation.
Father God, in the beginning You created all things. The earth and all that is on it, the heavens, the highest heavens, and even the starry host host are the good works of Your hands. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of life worship You. To You O God belong the heavens, the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. All things declare Your glory, the work of Your hands, the depth of Your knowledge, and the steadfastness of Your love. You O Lord placed mankind in this world to work it and take care of it. You gave us stewardship over it, to not pollute or defile it, for You also dwell here among us. Yet, we have been wicked, so the land is now parched, the grass is withered, and the animals, birds and people have perished. This place has become a wasteland, desolate before You, laid to waste because there is no one who cares. Yet, You Jesus, are before all things, and through You the Father holds all things together. In You, the exact representation of God’s being, the radiance of His glory sustains all things by His powerful Word. Through You Jesus the Father is pleased to reconcile all things to himself, both on earth and in heaven, making peace through Your blood on the cross, redeeming us and all of creation. Praise You O Lord of the heavens, praise You in the heights above. May all of creation and the angels praise You. Praise Him sun and moon, all the shining stars, the skies and waters too. Let all of creation praise Your name Lord, for through Your command all of us were created. You set our souls in place for all of eternity, and decreed that we shall never pass away, for Jesus our King has redeemed us both now and forever, for Your glory and honor, amen.
