This brief chapter (three verses) informs us the king has a far reach with great power, and Mordecai advanced to being his second in command (replacing Haman), like Joseph was second to the Pharaoh in Egypt.
“…Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.” (v3)
It’s unlikely any of us will be as widely influential as Mordecai or Joseph were. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t have meaningful influence on those around us. By seeking the welfare of those around us, and speaking peace to all people we can have major positive impacts for Christ’s Kingdom here on earth.
God places each one of us into a specific realm of influence. Whether we realize it or not, every word and every action we put forth influences someone, or will influence someone should it be made known (including those things done in secret). By honoring God, and obeying His commands, we become the type of influencers that Mordecai and Joseph were. We might not have the breadth of their reach, but we will have the same powerful impact if we allow God to work through us.
Most/all of the God-honoring people who positively impact my life are not well-known – in fact, you wouldn’t know any of their names if I listed them. However, the magnitude of their impact is massive.
I encourage us to obey God to the utmost of our God-given abilities, with the full provision He has given. By doing so we will consequently have powerful positive influence for God’s Kingdom here on earth, which will ripple into eternity. Who wants to be impactful like that? I know I do.
Father God, our Magnificent and Gracious Lord, You have abundantly blessed us with provision for use in Your Kingdom. May we embrace that which You entrust to us, all gifts, abilities, resources and connections, inviting You to create a Christly impact through us. May every word and action positively represent Your heart for Your creation, and may You be glorified with every breath, both now and forever, amen.
