This chapter continues to show Wisdom’s (personified) perspective, pleading with those around her, testifying to her credentials as parts of God’s character.
“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth, before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world. When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he assigned to the sea its limit, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,” (v22-29 abr)
It was with Wisdom that God created the heavens and the earth – Wisdom predates us, and has always been with God, and has always been part of God. The personified characteristic of Wisdom is a natural outflow of righteous behavior, and God-honoring obedience, since we are drawn near to Him, and aligned us to His will.
Wisdom, like Love, are both part of God, and who He is. He is Love, He is Wisdom; He is both of these characteristics (and more) as displayed by His actions. We, as image bearers of Jesus and God, can also live out these characteristics as fruit of the Spirit.
I encourage us to continue spending time with God in prayer, scripture reading, and hands-on service. The closer we draw to Him, the more we will look like Wisdom personified, or Love incarnate. These characteristics take on a life of their own through those who walk with God daily. Wouldn’t it be great if the people around us described us by such characteristics: “They’re a very loving person” or “They have wisdom beyond their years”? This is possible through a close personal relationship with God.
Father God, You are Wisdom, and You are Love. You exhibit all righteous characteristics so fully that You give them lives of their own. Holy Spirit please continue to work within us, shaping our hearts and minds so we may also exhibit this fruit. May we learn to personify God and His characteristics so the world will take notice, and praise the Creator from which these qualities come. In the name of Jesus, Your Embodiment of Love we praise You, amen.
