Today I offer a prayer for us, and those in authority over us. Yesterday we talked about honoring the authorities God has allowed in our lives, so today I want to do so.
Father God, our Sovereign Lord and King, holy, holy, holy is Your name. Just as Moses wisely appointed judges for his people, You too appoint authorities over us. May we be subject to the governing authorities instituted by You. May we learn to clothe ourselves with humility and grace toward one another and our elders. May we for Your sake be subject to human institutions that have been put in place for the governance of Your people, to punish evil and praise those who do good. When doing good may we put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Jesus, may those in authority who do not yet know You as their savior, experience Your salvation in their lives, so the Spirit of peace and dignity may rest upon them. For we know it is good and pleasing to You that all should come into Your presence, and Your desire is for all people to be saved through the knowledge of the truth. May we in turn obey the leaders who keep watch over our souls, making their service joyful, and not burdensome. Father please help us to honor everyone, love our neighbors, and fear you, forever and ever, amen.
