his two-verse Psalm proves longer isn’t always better.
“Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!” (v1-2)
What I like about this Psalm is the author doesn’t leave any room for interpretation (or misinterpretation). They are very much to the point:
– all people are to praise God enthusiastically
– God loves us completely without wavering
– God’s faithfulness (standing by us and keeping His promises) will never falter
I also appreciate what the author leaves out – they don’t use any conditional statements. What I mean is, they don’t say “praise the Lord when you feel like it” or “God’s faithfulness endures as long as we’re obedient”. There aren’t any conditions or caveats, these statements are written as straight-up facts, like Nike’s slogan “just do it” – right to the point, no interpretation required.
This is a good reminder for me to praise the Lord at all times, in all circumstances, because He (and He alone) is worthy of praise. After all, great is His steadfast love and His faithfulness endures forever, even when mine waivers. Isn’t God deserving of praise for His outstanding character and integrity?
Father God, everlasting Creator, holy is Your name. All praise honor and glory be to You, the blessed three-in-one, who loves us greatly. Thank you for Your steadfast faithfulness, even when ours falters. We long to praise You ceaselessly, please help us to remember You at all times. Please impress Yourself on our hearts, and gently bring us back into Your presence when we become distracted. Jesus please help us in this way. Amen.
